I too would like to know about other areas of the country. I've been freelancing in the Washington DC area for 12 years (20+ years experience) and many like me get $500/8hrs at location. Avid or FCP, it doesn't matter. Some clients are holding the line at $450/day. Anything less, you know the saying ... you get what you pay for. Short form work tends to get top dollar, longer documentary rates are less.
