Starfield - how do you make this dang thing work?

I'm baffled. I'm trying to experiment with StarField, but I'm seeing nothing and can't figure it out.
I know it must be something simple and dumb that I'm not doing: I create a new comp (DVCPro HD 720p 30), then create a new white solid the same size as the comp. I apply DE_StarField, and nothing. I've tweaked the controls, but still see nothing. I thought, maybe it's just a slow render, but after leaving it alone for 1/2 hour, still nothing. I tried a black solid and a piece of HD footage, and still nada.
What am I doing wrong?
