AE or FCP for color finesse?

What is the best option for heavy color correction (primary and secondary) with color finesse?
AE with 16-bit color facility
FCP 8-bit rendering facility
I do believe i may be getting the color bit depth confused with rendering bit's??
Original footage will be 8-bit SD QuickTime video
When color finesse calculates in 32-bit floating point - can't really get a handle on this from what i have googled.
Banding issues, no issues, depends on what footage you are using etc...
Is it worth purchasing AE pro for the 16-bit color facility (in terms of quality)
or is the plug-in for FCP just as good considering the 8-bit SD footage?
Final distribution will be on SD DVD
Would appreciate any enlightenment!
