MEL - good introduction book for a class?

I'm possibly going to be teaching an intro to MEL class in the fall and am wondering if anyone has any book suggestions.
I have the following already:
Complete Maya Programming, David Gould
Professional MEL solutions for Production, Kevin Mannens
MEL Scripting of Animators, Mark Wilkins and Chris Kazmier
The students are all filmmakers and animators and very likely none of them have any programming experience. The problem with these books is that they all assume some kind of programming knowledge, which may not be the case.
Anyone familiar with any good MEL primers? Or maybe even a C+ primer of some kind?
Thanks!
