Planetary atmosphere and realistic clouds in maya

Hello everyone,
I realized I made a planet Earth and clouds and atmosphere on two separate spheres, but If I approach the room with the planet, you can clearly see the two spheres (of the atmosphere and clouds) that really do not have consistency, but are simple "glass balls" ().
How can I make the soft contours of the spheres? Or rather, how can I make it consistent, "solid" the atmosphere, as seen in this simulation on Mars? (And how to make credible the clouds?):

Many many thanks!
