Length between paintfx tree twigs

Hi all,

I've been put in charge of the Xmas e-card this year and thought I'd create something in 3D. I'm wanting to create a christmas tree using the pine PaintFX brush but it seems that the length between the twigs on the tree becomes smaller and smaller further up towards the top of the tree (as it gets thinner). This means that there is a lack of leaves on the bottom half and the top half is overcrowded with leaves.

Any suggestions?
