Canon XH-A1 End Search Issue

hi i have a canon xh-a1.

when i am in vcr mode to review footage that i had just shot, i press the end search to jam sync. a few weeks ago it worked fine, but now when i press end search, i see the end search symbol show that looks like " >| " in white color and it rewinds, and previews x1 before it stops at the end of the tape..

now when i do it, the " >| " symbol just blinks and is red in color.

has anyone had this problem and been able to solve it?
