I've never seen that before. Perhaps your XL2 needs to take a trip to the repair depot. Before you resort to that, try pulling the memory battery so the XL2 defaults to its original settings. Have you tried using a different brand of tape? If nothing helps, then you need to send your camera back to Canon for testing and calibration. It almost looks like there's light leaking in from the sides, doesn't it?
