Most Mobo RAID controllers are pretty weak. You will get decent speed with just a RAID-0, anything else will probably be quite slow. As far as the software RAId or using the hardware controller, you may want to test each out and find out what will work best. My guess is that the speed will be the same in RAID-0. With that, you will want some kind of backup pan.
