I only mix with "name brand" RAM. If I'm going to change up anything in the second slot pair, I'll change the size (if the mobo accepts more RAM). You don't get many issues doing that. Changing the speed can lead to more issues in certain quirky instances, so if you're going to do that, do what the person above said and take it somewhere for testing.
