upgrade from Visual C++.net Standard (Version 2003)

I want to get back into programming C++ again, so I installed
Microsoft Visual C++.net Standard (version 2003) on my new Dell laptop
running Windows Vista. Apparently, Vista and this old version of
Visual C++ have compatibility problems. I thought I should upgrade.
Unfortunately, after spending over a hour at the Microsoft website, I
am still not sure what product I should purchase for the upgrade! Can
someone point me in the right direction?
