Failing Varification

I have been using verbatim DVD's for some time without any problems. Over the last few weeks, many of my DVD's fail verification. I recieved a new batch the other day and they do the same thing. I can burn in Toast or the operating system with the same outcome. If I burn in DVDSP it may not show an error, but I can see issues on playback. My first thought is that the burner might be bad. I have a dual 2.7 mac with superdirve. However, I do not want to order a new burner if that is not the problem. Any suggestions on how I can narrow this down?
Mike
