I can second those recommendations as well ... both are excellent books! And Blain Brown sometimes gives lectures in the LA area if he's not working! A big plus :)) As John mentions, the forums here and at cinematography.com are incredible resources -- working DP's at high levels tend to answer and be involved. My experience in all of these forums has been nothing short of positive - no being looked down upon for asking newbie type questions - everyone is very helpful and willing to share.
