On some shoots I run the left side arm of the tripod forewards and a bit to the left/below the lens and mount my Panasonic 9" on that so the monitor sits level with the mattebox. I have found this position at times to be better than on top of the camera as the center of gravity remains more constant, less fulcrum effect on the tripod head.
