How to do a Powerpuff like trail glow effect.

Hello everybody,

I am looking for a solution to simulate powerpuff girls cartoon's glow trail effect that the girls leave behind during their flight. How can such effect be applied behind a moving object, for example, a shooting star.

I am also exporting 3d renders of extruded stars. Maybe i can apply similar glow to those renders. I just dont know what kind of glow or particle effect will work best.

Its a desperate situation and any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
