...later....got it fixed, albeit by accident. I tried 'auto configure' earlier with no results. After trying several deck configure combinations I figured "what the heck" and tried 'auto configure' once more. Ta-dah! For some reason it worked this time. Regained deck control. Here's a weird part- even though the DV desk is a Panasonic AJ-455, the auto configure function called it a Sony BVW-75, on COM1. The other box now reads 'direct on No Port. Go figure. Well, it's working. For now. And thanks for the input.
