In Avid, you can select all the pictures at once if they have a number sequence, open up the options and check the autodetect seq and change the still duration to 1, 2 seconds.
Years ago I had to do something similiar, brough the files into avid using and then used a time effect to speed it up quite a bit as 1 second is just way too long for stop motion.
If you have a seq files. I would probably bring them into AE(also can do make them into one file during import) and work with it in there. Probably turn on frame blending. Just a little easier to work with photos in AE.
