Major HDV capture problems

I have Media Composer 3.1.3 and am trying to capture HDV Pal from a Sony hdr-fx7 camcorder to a Mac with OS 10.5.5. I have the the project settings at 1080i/50 and HDV, the camcorder is set export out HDV and I am using an iLink 4x9 firewire cable.
I have looked at multiple suggestions on the Internet such as not digitizing time code, which I have tried, digitizing with in and out points, etc., and none of them have worked so far. The digitizing always stops before getting through the entire tape.
Could someone please give me suggestions of what I might do to digitize this footage?
