A few years bak when FCP added multicam and was bragging about how many you could group together, a couple guys at Avid decided to test it as no on actually knew the answer. I think they quit testing at something like 200 clips. Needless to say, there is no limit that you will run into.

Playback is 9 as stated erlier.
