I can't say why it'd resize it. It's fuzzyness is a result of that famous nasty DVE we all know and hate. Not only does it alias with any rotation, there are certain sizes and positions that will make it unusable. This has been the case since the 3D DVE's introduction with MC v5 almost 15 years ago.
At this point, my guess is the revolving CEOs at Avid hold stock in apple and enjoy selling thousands upon thousands of copies of FCP by not growing Avid's product line.

I'd venture to guess their next update will boast about a fix for a closer step toward what you thought you purchased
