XDCAM EX and Avid
by Chris Carnazzo on Jul 18, 2008 at 6:11:38 pm

New post, same project.

First off, here are some specs
- 2.4 Duel GHz processors
- 2.00 GB of RAM
- Media Composer with Mojo SDI 3.0
- Avid Unity storage

Does anyone have any experience with using Sony XDCAM EX and avid? The EX uses flash memory instead of optical drives. I figured out how to export clips into mxf's using sony's clip browser software. Then, I imported into avid with no problem.

So my question; is there a cleaner way to do it? Right now, disk space is being used by the original clips (long mpeg, whatever that means), the exported mxf file, and then the file avid built upon import.

i tried draggin the exported mxf's into the new Avid Media Files bin, but avid rejected it. Avid wanted to quarentine the files.

Is it the way I'm importing them? I've created a 1080p/23.976 project. I'm importing the clips as DNxHD 115 MxF. Picked this setting almost at random. sounded bigger than 36, smaller than 175.

which brings up a second question, what do these settings represent? the avid page just compares the new settings to sd settings, but uses a different set of numbers. 145 MxF. not sure how it translates.

thanks for your help!

cc
