The awful truth is: the Adrenaline is a very pretty breakout box. Not much, if any, processing happening there.
It can support the HD card, which enables DNxHD codecs. But even then, at version 2.5 (I think) of the Media Composer software, the hardware was cut loose from the software, and you could run software-only.
I highly recommend visiting the Avid web site and looking at the machine list certified by Avid, then making your hardware decisions accordingly. The Avid software is VERY particular about system configurations, especially sharing certain data busses (it does not like to share; that's why you can't use certain card slots in Avid systems), video cards and drivers, ancillary software like matching the version of Avid and version of Quicktime, etc.
Hope this helps some, and good luck with it!
Jon
