The are just black horizontal lines that typically show up at the top and bottom of a graphic. The have also been showing up in random places on the video after rendering.
A new theory is that our gfx card is not a supported one and we need to upgrade that. We found errors in the console that tipped us off it's just weird that there was no actual error message that Avid displayed after rendering...
