I've been writing and compiling some links to articles on Avid and Final Cut Pro comparisons that may be a bit of help:

I agree they are very different programs but I personally see the similarities more than the difference. I've done some small things like mapping my FCP keyboard to match the Avid as closely as I can. It really help in that I jump back and forth on an almost daily basis.
