Create a tube

Whilst I'm waiting to get my swatches back I thought I'd try and create a 'cylinder' ... this is probably so easy when someone explains it I'll almost certainly shoot myself, in older versions of Invig if I wanted a cylinder I created a 'stroked' path in illustrator, but with the new object drawing - how to do it now ? I can draw a circle which creates a disc but then how do I cut a circular hole through it ? Many thanks for taking the time ... Roger
