Hi Steve,
Invigorator/Proanimator when importing an object assign a so called File Hard Shading Angle preset to it. It may not always give you the best results.
To set the Hard Shading Angle manually, just select your object, open the Stats menu and alter the value from "File" to (40) for instance.
