Ok, I solved the mystery...well sort of. I downloaded updates, restarted, and created my document from scratch in Illustrator. Now, when I hit Save, the dialog options box appears and I can turn Compression OFF!
I have no idea why the other document wouldn't save, but now, I'm happy and ready to import into ProAnimator.
