[Shawn Larkin] "If I can import any media file -- say H.264 up to DPX -- and it creates ProRes as in intermediary codec / container which I can work off of AND THEN I can export any format out and dump the ProRes intermediary files once the project is finished (if I want to) while retaining the original source media for archive -- THEN that is ideal. And Smoke becomes a true NLE replacement + VFX solution."

YES. You can use Prores from proxy to 4444 as an intermediate. You can also link natively to your files, edit... renders would be prores, and you can then output in many standard files.

You decide how you want to work and Smoke will work with you.
