deciding on camera to use for low budget video

Hi,
I have a project with limited funds and have a couple of cameras I can borrow cheaply-
a Canon D90 DSLR which is HD video, somewhat difficult to use ( totally auto in video mode) and has low quality audio with no jack for external mikes
OR
a SONY DVX 1000 from the years before HD.
I am wondering if the Sony DVX 1000 has video in any way comparable to what we are used to now- ie HD, I plan to play the final piece on a loop on a large flat screen Digital TV or monitor in a gallery setting. Will it look crappy by todays HD standards?
I will be editing on FCPx, and will also be using high quality (super close up) digital still photos through out.
Thanks for your advice
Heidi
