Having answered my own question, the answer was not intuitive and I thought it might be of value to other Sony owners who might also have been confused. My main question was why if I had changed scan settings to progressive did my LCD still read 1080i implying an interlaced capture. The answer from Sony is that regardless of how you set your scan settings the LCD will always read 1080i. In a perfect world, you would make your change to progressive and it would say 1080p, but no such luck. Just a little confusing but now knowing, easy enough to live with.
