Hi Brian
Did what you said - system behaves exactly as you described i.e. camera registers as 'imaging device' in DV mode, and registers in 'sound video and game controllers' in HDV mode - but I still have the same problem - 'The device.......could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and not being used by another application or user".

Is it possible that the error message is actually pointing to the correct problem i.e. another application (or remnants of it) still has hold of some of the components needed to make the camera work in DV mode? - when I first tried to use VidCap60 under Win7 64bit, it attempted to connect to my Logitec Webcam (which I could never get to work with Win 7) so I disconnected the Webcam and uninstalled the driver for it. Is it possible that the webcam is preventing my camera from operating, even though I've uninstalled it? (e.g. some registry entry that shouldn't be there...)

thanks again
David
