dvcpro tapes firewire sdi and the dsr-1800 dsr-1500A

So, noob here looking for some input.
i am doing a student film on a panasonic dvcpro camera and dvcpro tape, obviously.
I have an aj-d960 deck but only sdi ouput.
I have the option of buying a sdi capture card, or trading my aj-d960 for a dsr machine that will output the tape via firewire.
I am trying to figure out what would keep the best resolution via fire or sdi (no analog output).
Does a mac with fcp like fire or sdi better?
I don not need hd for this prokject however if I had to convert it to 16mm for a festival, any input on recording adn editing?
thanks, kevin
