VX-2100 Back Up of footage

Hi all,
I own a VX-2100 camcorder and was wondering what you can recommend as a back up procedure whilst recording to tape. Although i have never had any problems just using tape i'd like to have the reassurance that if anything did ever go wrong i could still record the footage.
Are you able to connect say a portable hard drive to the camcorder to record footage whilst taping or any other device?
It would have to be portable as i sometimes record in areas with no access to electricity.
