That sort of gradient color is going to cause problems in places. 1st is the HDV itself, the compression won't be perfect there. 2nd is the monitor within an editing program. These are never meant to show full quality and degrade the image somewhat.

Mixing these 2 things together and you might have the cause of your problem. So my question to you is: After capturing this, are you looking at it on the computer screen or an external video monitor? If you aren't, try to view this in some other way. Maybe burn a small sample to DVD and see how that looks on a television. Is the problem still there? A lot of this may just come from how you're viewing it.

But even with that, it will never be perfect. These kind of subtle changes are the things that cause the most problems for the HDV codec. This kind of background will never be 100% perfect no matter what you do.
