Z1 is an outstanding camera, the V1 has a better zoom, and as much as I hate digital zooms, the DZ on the V1 is actually useful.
Canon's A1 is very nice too, but since you're needing depth, not width, the Sony is a marginally better option. Plus, the only place the Canon reallys shines over Sony is in the 24p, and you're in 25p land anyway.
Give the Z or the V a second look, IMO. We have used both in action sports on numerous occasions. As long as lighting is reasonable, both are great cams.
