The newer cams have different interface chips which are more sensitive to voltage transients, firewire connectors are also subject to mechanical failure, alot of time the 4pin connectors fit snuggly in the recpt, and people tend to wiggle them to aid in removal or insertation, also some people use 6 to 4pin adapters with a 6 wire cable put twisting and bending stress on the cam recpt.
