I wouldn't say "rougher" at all.
If anything, its LESS strenuous, because any given section of tape spends LESS time in the path of the spinning head(s) because it moves across them at a faster pace.

Again, DVCAM's image and audio QUALITY is the SAME as DV SP...
But one way DVCAM works a bit more "reliably" than DV SP is that any imperfections on the tape will go past the heads quicker so that the digital error correction can have an easier job masking any problems.

It also makes the DVCAM-speed tapes easier to play on other machines (ones other than the unit that recorded them) because the "spaces between the head-swipes" are larger and tracking the recorded info is less problematic. if the heads on various machines don't quite match.
