thanks for your ideas. The field computers will be notebooks and most modern units do have S video ports. The Z1U also has s video.

In the field I won't be able to put a camera on the actual LCD screens - a technician will be working and in the way. This is why I want to record the fullscreen signal to a DV camera or record deck and have the image to cut to when I need it in the film.

The test I tried to do to work this out was to hook up my Z1U to my notebook. I tried both Firewire and S video connections and I don't get an image. It's that "simple workaround" I'm trying to do now.

I assumed from what others have reported here that a converter like the Canopus is required.
