As far as I can tell you can't change ins and outs for an audition after it is created in an event (but of course you can once it is in the timeline.)
What I did was mark my favorites first for the shots and then in the browser view show favorites for the shots and then create auditions from there. That way the ins and outs are already set before making the audition.
Once you get your head around it, it can be very helpful for the right project. You can make a quick assembly edit, but know that in each shot you can swap out takes easily.
