No proxy files

So....
On my continued journey into FCPX may I thank everyone who has responded so far and hope I am not taking up to much space.
On Importing from AVCHD I selected both "Create Optimised" and "Proxy". I have already posted elsewhere tat some of the footage was actually 1920 by 1080 option in the Panasonic TM900 and so did not seem to get transcoded..clearly FCPX thinks it does not need to. So I have original material in one folder and proxy and Pro Res folders only contain what FCPX transcoded.
HOWEVER...I am playing with compositing and applied multiple filters and effects to multiple "tracks" and I think my workflow would be faster if I selected Proxy Playback mode.
But because FCPX has not transcoded what IT decoded it thinks did not need to transcode half my media goes offline in playback Proxy mode....
Now I think if I ask FCPX to transcode to Pro Res and Proxy it should do as its told don't you and not overrule me.
Or am I, as usual, missing something here?
Many thanks...goodness this takes me back to the old 2-pop.com days all this years ago!
best
James
