Aah, yes. X completely chokes on MB Looks. The performance difference between Looks in X and in Premiere is very stark. I find that X works best when you limit the effects to the built-ins and some of the ones derived from Motion templates.
I've also just found that clips using Animation codec bring X to its knees. This would include a lot of stock keyable transition effects like light leak clips. X also chokes on some mixed frame sizes and frame rates. For instance, DVCPRO HD 720p/59.94 in a 1080p/23.98 ProRes timeline or a 2K ProRes file in a 1080p ProRes timeline.
