No problem!

Let me see if I can get this right. Find a missing clip in your timeline.

Make a new event.

Find the clip in finder, import it to your new event.

Now FCPX knows about it.

Select the missing clip again and go to the inspector.

Click the little gear in the lower right.

Select "Show file status"

Select Modify Event References. At that point something should come up and you'll see the new event you just created. You ave to either select it or drag it up to the top of the list.

You'll probably have to play around with it to get it, but that's the basic idea.
