I need some advice

I don't want to make this too long so here's the facts:

- I'm slightly new to this industry but I'm 27 so I'm wondering if I'm getting too old to start building a career

- I have interned at several places, at least one of them a notable television network

- I can't get hired anywhere, even for freelance work

How do I get years of experience in certain types of work that jobs are asking for when I can't get a job to get the experience? Being in NY there's a decent job market, there's always something going on to apply to but if I can't get the necessary experience I won't have a chance at that job... It feels like a terrible cycle.
