Al ZaBest Mac system for editing HD footage?

I am looking for a really efficient and fast Mac system for editing HD videos using Premiere pro or FCP. What system characteristics would you guys recommend, for a budget of around $3000?

I appreciate it if you could also advise what kind characteristics of the system are important for speed of editing, is it RAM, HDD rpm, CPU, etc.
