EditShare v5 is no longer being tested or updated for compatibility with recent client software such as Windows 7 or Avid MC 5+. It may work, but no promises.
EditShare 6 is being actively maintained & developed, and tested against current versions of common NLEs including MC 5 & 6 on both Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
If you're planning to use the “latest & greatest” software on the workstations, for best compatibility, it's a good idea to be running current server software as well.
