Leads too loud in big 4 cam theatre shoot. Will a compressor help.

Any chance a compressor will help with really loud leads in a musical?

If so, any starter settings? I am new to compressors.

Otherwise, I have a shotgun mic I can bring up but there is a lot of echo on it.
