Jude PoyerEPK type clips - Format/Codec Questions?
by on Apr 23, 2012 at 7:33:21 pm

I'm using CS 5.5 on a PC. I have quite a bit of "behind the scenes" footage from shoots I've worked on. They vary from Canon DSLR, Sanyo Xacti (mp4), HDV etc. In the past, footage I've shot has been used (sparingly) in DVD special features, documentaries etc. I'm sure you have seen similair non-pro footage used like that before.

I would like to trim some of this footage (cutting out any boring or embarassing stuff)and keep it on a hard drive for editors to use in the future. In the days of miniDV it was easy - I created DV avi files - and could be confident an editor could use them.

What should I output from PPro, confident that an editor using Mac/Pc FinalCut/Avid etc will be able to use them in HD projects? I'd like good quality, but not massive file sizes. If I was on Mac it'd be Prores 422, I guess. But I'm on PC.

I asked on another forum, and someone suggested Avid DNxHD - I can't seem to output those. Cineform seems a good quality/size compromise...but don't editors need to download that codec?

Suggestions are much appreciated.
