John WardCS 5.5 apps running in 32-bit system?

Hi, All -

long time lurker, infrequent poster, interesting question. We recently purchased Production Premium CS5 including, of course, AE 5.5 & Premiere Pro 5.5 which can only run on 64-bit systems. We have had to put it on an older Mac Pro (1,1 hardware series) which theoretically was just before 64-bit hardware was introduced. Long story short, we don't have 64-bit but PP5.5 and AE5.5 are opening and running on our system.
My questions are 1) how is this possible? and B) what are the potential pitfalls of running these programs this way?
I should also mention that I have been told there is currently no hardware upgrade in my future so if your knee-jerk reaction is to respond that we should upgrade our hardware, don't bother. I already agree with you but it has no bearing on my current situation.

System specs
Mac Pro, 2 x dual-core xeons @ 2.66GHz
7GB RAM
OS X 10.6.8
no 64-bit kernel or extensions

Thanks in advance for your time,

John Ward
