For any system that isn't the latest and greatest, more RAM can compensate for less spec in other areas. I'd typically recommend 24 GB of RAM in a dual-quad core Mac...

I have 16 GB in my Windows laptop.

More RAM is better with Adobe products...pretty much across the board.
