DHR-1000 Not recognised

Hi first time poster so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong forum.

I'm running Premiere Pro on a Macbook Pro (10.6) and I'm trying to capture some mini dv tapes from a Sony DHR-1000np tape deck.

In the capture window it just appears "Can't Activate Recorder. Try Resetting Camera." And nothing seems to make it recognise.

Is there anything I can fiddle around with to make this work? I really don't like capturing tape after tape off my camera.
